Municipal elections to impact local economic conditions
On March 8, municipal elections will take place across Bavaria. About 39,500 local officials will be elected for the next six years.
Bavarian towns, cities and districts can actively shape the local conditions that are important for investment decisions. Municipalities formulate local economic policy but also bear responsibility in local and regional planning and infrastructure development. Municipal activities impact how attractive an area is for prospective employees because local councils can make decisions about housing, care, and education as well as other issues impacting the quality of life.
Strong businesses need strong municipalities because they are the home to companies and their employees. Therefore, the Bavarian Industry Association has formulated priorities for the upcoming municipal elections.
- Place economic development at the heart of local policy
- Ensure municipal financing
- Guarantee modern local transport infrastructure
- Create more housing
- Provide sufficient childcare capacity
- Create customer-oriented digital administrations
- Further advance the energy transition in municipalities
- Further expand digital networks and infrastructure
- Ensure healthcare provision
- For optimal cooperation between municipal and private providers
- Award municipal contracts via SME-friendly tendering processes
- Promote the circular economy in municipalities
- Create attractive city centers and town centers
- Bavaria must remain the number one (bus) tourism destination
- Reliably guarantee civil protection and disaster relief

Notably, on the municipal level the right to vote is not linked to German but EU-citizenship. EU-citizens living in Bavaria may vote in the municipal elections
