Bavaria and the USA – Shaping a Transatlantic Future Together
The Bavarian and US-American economy are closely intertwined. Strong and stable economic ties are in the interest of both countries. This paper by vbw elaborates how the transatlantic business relationship could be actively shaped for continuous mutual benefit considering geopolitical tensions, trade conflicts and climate change.
Positions of the Bavarian Industry Association
- Ensuring economic security through transatlantic cooperation: To meet global challenges the partners on both sides of the Atlantic need to cooperate closely. The Bavarian industry should not become a pawn in the rivalry between the USA and China.
- Maintaining the power balance and strengthening free trade: The integration of the Bavarian and US economy should be institutionalized in a transatlantic free trade agreement. WTO reform should be advanced.
- Finding means of cooperation on climate change and the energy transition: In addition to a continued dialogue on climate change and energy transition on the national level cooperation on the state-level should be increased.
- Strengthening technology partnerships: The EU-US Trade and Technology Council (TTC) should be maintained. Negotiations and cooperations that have already begun should be continued and built upon.
- Maintaining regional partnerships: By creating close ties with strategically important US-states the Bavarian government can contribute to advantageous conditions for investment, economic cooperation, and market entry.
